CHENNAI:
Tamil Nadu added seven deaths and 502 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Monday, which pushed the cumulative case tally to 8,38,842 and the death toll touched 12,363. There are 4,532 people still under treatment for the viral infection.
All districts reported new infections, while Chennai was the only district to report seven deaths. Out of the seven deaths, the death of a 46-year –old woman in Guindy GH was the only death without comorbid condition, all other patients had conditions such as diabetes and hypertension.
While Chennai topped the cases table with 134 cases, Coimbatore reported 59 cases, Chengalpet had 30, Tiruppur clocked 27 and Thanjavur reported 25. All other districts had cases below 25, and 25 districts reported a single digit increase in cases.
After 517 people were discharged, the state revised the number of people cured to 8,21,047 and the recovery rate went up to 98%.
Together the 11 northern districts reported 232 cases and seven deaths. The Chennai region- Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpet, reported 191 new cases.
The eight western districts together reported 140 cases. Followed by the ten Southern districts which reported 62 cases and Central districts together had 68 cases.
With seven people under treatment cases, active cases were the lowest in Perambalur followed Kallakurichi (8), Ramanathapuram (12) and Ariyalur (17).
