Aung San Suu Kyi detained as military seizes control

Nay Pyi Taw, Feb 1(UNI) Myanmar's military on Monday seized power and detained Aung San Suu Kyi and other democratically elected leaders.
The army declared a one-year state of emergency and troops have been patrolling the streets in the cities and across the country and night-time curfew has been put in place.
The Myanmar army alleged that the recent landslide election win by Ms Suu Kyi's party was marred by fraud. Ms Suu Kyi urged her supporters to "protest against the coup", saying that the military's actions will put the country back under a dictatorship.
The military has already announced the replacement for a number of ministers.
Reacting to these developments the UN said it was a "serious blow to democratic reforms", with the US and UK among those also opposing the coup.
