Google may soon rollout hashtags support for Discover feed
Internet search giant Google has apparently started testing the use of hashtags to articles that appear in Google Discover feed. This was reported by 9to5Google report that suggests that these hashtags appear just after the article description and right above the name of the publication.
“Some articles just have one for the company being discussed, while others specify a very general category. Google is presumably the one assigning the hashtag, with websites having no obvious control over what appears,” says the report.
The report further adds that this use of the hashtag appears to be in A/B test phase and it remains to be seen whether or not this is officially rolled out to everyone. This is because, in the beta rollout of Chrome 89, the internet search giant has completely gotten rid of the descriptions.
A report by Android Police had suggested that Google is set to replace the cards in which articles are listed with dividers and also include a bigger text size.
Apart from this, the Chrome 89 version is also said to come with Privacy Sandbox, which Google suggests is "a secure environment for personalisation that also protects user privacy." Another feature that is claimed to be spotted in the upcoming Chrome 89 version is called site info popup. This feature is said to allow users to see full address, information about page security, and a list of granted permissions when they press the 'I' or lock icon in the address bar.
