‘Breathe, brother, breathe’: One man shot dead, another injured in Hurstville shooting
One man is dead and another injured after they were shot in Sydney’s south.
Police responded to reports of gunshot fire on Macmahon Street in Hurstville about 11pm on Saturday night.
They found the two men, aged 35 and 23, suffering gunshot wounds inside a Mercedes stopped nearby, NSW Police said.
Paramedics treated the men at the scene before taking them to hospital but the older man died. The 23-year-old is in a stable condition.
The gunman is on the run, NSW Police said. It is not yet known how many people were involved in the shooting.
Footage capturing the aftermath of the shooting shows a uniformed police officer and two other men hunched over the open doors of a white Mercedes. One of the men takes off his T-shirt and hands it the police officer leaning over the back seat where the wounded man lies.
A man can be heard yelling “get him out of the car ... please, can we get him out of the car”, in a video supplied to the St George Shire Standard.
Another man yells “get back, this is a crime scene”.
Another man lies on the footpath nearby a police officer, and men in shorts and T-shirts kneel beside him.
A second video shows a man being lifted out of the back seat of the car and onto an ambulance stretcher.
A man can be heard saying, “you’re gonna make it ... breathe, brother, breathe.”
“Hey, put pressure on the wound, mate,” a male voice yells as the paramedics load the stretcher into the back of an ambulance.
Detectives from St George police area command and the homicide squad are investigating the shooting.
Police established a crime scene, which is being examined by specialist forensic officers.
Anyone with information about the shooting has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
