UDUPI: Udupi recorded 99.44% success on day one of pulse polio immunisation programme on Sunday. A total of 73,636 children out of 74,049 children in the target age group of 0-5-years were administered the polio vaccine drops across the district. Udupi taluk recorded 100.29% achievement with the drops being administered to 33,414 out of 33316 identified children. Kundapur recorded 98.56% achievement and Karkala 99.12% achievement.
The district health and family welfare department had set up 657 vaccination booths in the district including 585 in rural areas and remaining 72 in urban areas to enable health workers administer the vaccine. In addition, eight mobile teams were deputed and 37 transit booths opened to ensure that no child in the target age-group was deprived of this vaccine. A vaccination booth was also set up at each of the toll plazas in the district.
Staff from other departments and voluntary organisations assisted the health department in ensuring the success of the programme. DC G Jagadeesha urged all stakeholders to ensure that no child in the above age-group is left out of the drive, which will also be held on February 1 and 2 in rural areas and up to February 3 in urban areas through door to door survey to ensure 100% coverage of children in the target age-group.
