NASHIK: A 40-year-old unidentified person got crushed by a crane during the ongoing work of road widening at Sinnar Phata on Saturday afternoon.
The Nashik Road police have registered an offence of causing death by negligence against the crane driver.
The work of road widening is under way on the Nashik Pune Highway at Sinnar Phata.
On Saturday at around 1.30pm, the crane driver was going about his usual work at the construction site. While the crane driver was taking his vehicle back in the reverse gear, near the Maruti temple on the Sinnar to Nashik Road lane of the highway, an unidentified pedestrian who was crossing the road got crushed under the wheel of the crane and died on the spot.
Police officials reached the incident spot soon after getting information about the accident and sent the body for post-mortem. Meanwhile, the spot also witnessed a traffic jam for some time after the accident. However, the police regularized the traffic within a few minutes after the accident.
The road has become extremely narrow owing to the road widening work at Sinnar Phata. The road widening at this spot was expected around three years back, when the rest of the widening work of the highway was complete beyond Sinnar. However, some or the other technical reasons kept the road widening work on hold at this spot.
