The government has given a clear message to refrain from interfering in the matter of agricultural laws and leave everything to the Supreme Court. On the first day of the budget session, President Ram Nath Kovind in his address, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has given a clear message to this effect. In such a situation, the role of the three-member committee constituted by the Supreme Court has again become important.
President Ram Nath Kovind, while addressing a joint session of the two Houses on Friday, praised the agricultural laws fiercely and said that the Supreme Court is currently prohibiting the enforcement of agricultural laws. Our government will fully respect and abide by the decision of the Supreme Court.
At the same time, Tomar also said, the government will not give any new proposal to the farmers' organizations. The government has already put forward the best proposal to suspend all three laws and form an all-party committee. Now the government will do nothing further.
Supreme Court is important if farmers organization does not agree
It is clear from the President's address and the statement of the Minister of Agriculture that the government will wait for the decision of the Supreme Court if the farmers' organizations remain adamant. If in the meantime, the farmers' organizations have agreed to the government's proposal, then the middle path can be found in the whole dispute. The Supreme Court committee has to submit its report in two months. It has also started its work.
Questions were being raised on the relevance of the committee
The relevance of the three-member committee of the Supreme Court was questioned after the government proposed to postpone agricultural laws for a year and a half and constitute a committee to negotiate with all parties.
Apparently, if the farmers' organizations had accepted the government's proposal, then the relevance of the committee would have ended. Now, amid the ongoing tussle between the government and the farmers' organizations, the government has decided to leave the entire matter to the Supreme Court. In such a situation, the importance of the committee has increased again.
