Kerala reports 6,282 new COVID cases, 7,032 recoveries: Health Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 30 (UNI) Kerala registered 6,282 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Saturday while 7,032 patients recovered from the disease, Health Minister KK Shailaja said.

"In the last 24 hours, COVID was not confirmed in a single person who recently came back to Kerala from the UK (total 76 now) and their samples have been sent to NIV, Pune for further testing. So far, 10 people who came from the UK were diagnosed with the genetically modified virus," the minister said in a press release here this evening.

Meanwhile, 18 recent deaths were confirmed on Saturday due to COVID taking the death toll in the state to 3,722.

She said 59,759 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 10.51 %. Till now, a total of 95,76,795 samples have been sent for testing.

On Saturday, four places were declared as new hotspots even as eight more areas have been excluded from the list. There are 396 hotspots in Kerala as of now.
