AP renews special category status demand

At the all-party meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Saturday, YSR CP Rajya Sabha member Vijay Sai Reddy also sought setting of the High Court in Kurnool, and establishing a national university in Visakhapatnam.

New Delhi: YSR Congress Party Rajya Sabha member Vijay Sai Reddy has renewed the demand for special category status for Andhra Pradesh. At the all-party meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Saturday, he also sought setting of the High Court in Kurnool, and establishing a national university in Visakhapatnam.

He also suggested inter-linking of rivers be taken as a national project and river waters allotted to various states on basis of their geographical extent, clearance for Disha legislation, and speedy justice for rape victims bringing the necessary amendments to the laws. Referring to the farmers’ issues, Vijay Sai Reddy suggested bringing a legislation for providing remunerative prices to the product and separate Farmers’ Commission. He demanded 50 per cent reservations for women in legislature.

On the attacks of temples in Andhra Pradesh, he said that CC footage showed that the Telugu Desam Party leaders were behind the attacks and suggested that IPC 295 be amended to sentence the guilty to 20 years’ imprisonment in such cases.
