NOIDA: Farmers trying to enter Noida to join the protest will not be allowed to come into the city from now and they will only be allowed to move towards Ghazipur via Noida Extension, Gautam Budh Nagar police said on Friday.
Police in Greater Noida had placed barricades at Zero Point and Luharli toll plaza on Thursday night and stepped up vigil along the Yamuna Expressway.
The police said if the farmers travel through the expressway and parts of Gautam Budh Nagar, they will not be allowed to move towards Noida. They would be directed towards Ghazipur.
“The barricading was done anticipating a huge group of farmers arriving after what happened in Ghazipur on Thursday night. The farmers will not be allowed to move towards Noida from now. If they want to move towards Ghazipur, they will be allowed to travel through Noida Extension after crossing Surajpur,” DCP (Greater Noida) Rajesh Kumar Singh said.
On Friday, the Noida Authority began installing CCTV cameras at Chilla border to keep tabs on the area.
Farmers from GB Nagar carry water for Ghazipur protesters
Amid the controversy over Ghaziabad administration disconnecting water and electricity supply for farmers protesting at Ghazipur, members of Gautam Budh Nagar’s Kisan Ekta Sangh took water for the protesters in pitchers on Friday.
The farmers said that BKU leader Rakesh Tikait’s emotional speech has hurt the farmers.
“This was a great shock to the national president of the Kisan Ekta Manch and he decided to take water to Rakesh Tikait and his supporters,” a statement from the outfit said.
The outfit’s district president Krishan Nagar said around 150 people reached Ghazipur and many were carrying pitchers full of water.
“Water and electricity supply was snapped at Ghazipur. But we wanted to show the protesters that we are with them. Our supporters have set up a tent at the protest site and they are camping there,” he said.
Tikait drank water from the pitchers carried by the farmers and thanked the outfit for its support.
