CHANDIGARH: There will be no restrictions on the number of people in social gatherings in the city from February 1, announced UT administrator V P Singh Badnore on Friday.
The ministry of home affairs guidelines issued on January 27 had said social and other types of gatherings need not be limited to 50% of hall capacity with a ceiling of 200 persons in closed spaces. According to the MHA, states and UTs could allow gatherings without any restrictions, subject to their own standard operating procedures (SOPs) from February 1.
In the review meeting held on Friday, it was decided that the government guidelines for containment of Covid-19 will be applicable to Chandigarh. However, there will be no limit in the number of people attending social events. Strict Covid protocol will be followed, as per the SOPs issued by Government of India. Badnore appealed to citizens to follow Covid appropriate behaviour. He directed officials to move the government for introducing a scheme, where in the event of death of any employee engaged in Covid duty, an amount of Rs 50 lakh will be given as compensation. Presently, the grant is available only for health employees. The administrator directed that the proposal may be sent for covering other employees too.
