BHUBANESWAR: Odisha has dropped four places to be ranked 11th in the second India Justice Report (IJR) prepared by Tata Trust in partnership with several organisations for the year 2020, which was released on Thursday. The state’s overall ranking in 2019 was seventh.
Odisha had an overall score of 4.90 out of 10 among the 18 large and medium-size states.
In policing it has secured third rank with 5.59 score out of 10, while in prison management it is placed at ninth rank. In judiciary, it has secured the 15th rank and in terms of legal aid, it has secured eighth rank. State DGP Abhay tweeted, “Very happy to note that Odisha has been ranked third in policing among 18 large and mid-sized states ranked by prestigious India Justice report, 2020.”
In terms of vacancies of personnel, Odisha, according to the report, has less than 10%vacancies at constable level and less than 40% vacancies at officer level in police. In prisons, the state has above 40% vacancies at officer level and less than 10% vacancies of cadre staff. In judiciary, the state has more than 40% vacancies of high court judges, 20% vacancies of subordinate court judges and 31% vacancies of high court staff.
Maharashtra continues to be number one state in overall ranking with Karnataka getting the number one rank in policing.
