Focus on establishing food processing units in Solan : ACS

Solan, Jan 30 (UNI) Stressing the need of establishing mushroom and tomato based food processing industries in Solan, Additional Chief Secretary Ram Subhag Singh said Himachal government was contemplating to establish a new electronic park in Baddi- Barotiwala-Nalagarh (BBN) industrial belt.
The ACS said setting up of these industries would certainly benefits tomato and mushroom growers of Himachal Pradesh, particularly Solan district. It would also provide ample employment opportunities to skilled and unskilled unemployed youth of the district. Singh instructed the District Mining Officer that CCTV cameras should be installed at various stone crusher sites in Solan district. He directed to also carry out surprise inspections and raids on illegal mining sites at night to curb illegal mining.
Presiding over the review meeting of Industry Department here on Saturday, Additional Chief Secretary Multipurpose Projects and Energy and Industries Ram Subhag Singh directed that the possibilities of establishing food processing industries in new industrial areas of Solan district should be explored.
Ram Subhag Singh said Solan district is known all over the country mainly for industrial development and the state government was committed to develop Solan district as main industrial hub of the state. Efforts are being made to develop new industrial areas on the basis of availability of land in the district and present government was executing the planned work to properly exploit all the industrial areas of the district. For this it is necessary that such industries should be set up in the developing industrial areas of the state, which are based on local raw materials and can provide employment and self-employment to the youth on a large scale.
The ACS said work should be done to establish tomato and mushroom based food processing units in various industrial areas of the district. Food processing units should be set up on a group basis. Solan has a special identity in the production of tomatoes and mushrooms. State's ambitious Chief Minister Swavalamban Yojana can prove particularly beneficial in setting up food processing units.
He instructed the general manager of the District Industries Center and the manager of the district's leading bank, UCO Bank, that in cases sanctioned under the Mukhyamantri Swavalamban Scheme, the grant amount should reach the bank account of the beneficiary without any delay.
Ram Subhag Singh said efforts are being made to develop medical equipment production, electrical equipment production hub and electronic park in BBN industrial area of ​​the district.
He instructed that other basic infrastructure including water supply should be created in Waknaghat and Mamlig industrial areas of the district.
The ACS said to tackle the problem of low voltage in the state, work is being done under a comprehensive scheme of about Rs 160 crore. In Solan district, Rs 14 crore was being spent by identifying 68 locations of low voltage problem. He said the problem of low voltage in the state will be eliminated within the stipulated time period. He said that quality testing of this work was also being done on an independent basis.
He also issued appropriate instructions regarding solar powered lighting in the district. Detailed discussions were held in the meeting at Waknaghat, Mamlig, Nalagarh, Baddi and Davni industrial areas. It was informed that Rs 6.83 crore has been made available to 145 beneficiaries of Mukhyamantri Swavalamban Yojana in Solan district. So far, 4049 wooden poles have been replaced by Electricity Board in the district.
