43% turn up for jabs on tenth day of vaccination drive in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: The city witnessed a turnout of 43% on Friday, the tenth day of the Covid-19 vaccination drive. Altogether, 372 people of the 850 scheduled lined up to get their first dose of the vaccine. While Covishield was administered to 355 recipients at 24 session sites on Friday, Covaxin was given to 17 recipients at four other sites. No cases of adverse events were reported.
On Saturday, the health department plans to set up 28 session sites and the target is 850 recipients, the same as Friday. One session site will be in the Sector 10 Civil hospital while the rest will be in private facilities.
“We will push for more people to get vaccinated on Saturday. We are also planning to change the total target in the portal as we have noticed duplicate entries. We will halt vaccination temporarily because of the upcoming polio drive and resume it on February 4,” said Dr Virender Yadav, chief medical officer, Gurgaon.
Gurgaon had witnessed a turnout of 101% on the first day of inoculation on January 16, when 608 health workers received the jabs. It has seen a turnout of over 80% on most days since the drive began. So far, the health department has covered 21,419 recipients and met 57% of its total target of 37,000. The district has been setting up less than 30 session sites daily as the response has been erratic.
