Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 30 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 73rd death anniversary here on Saturday.
Gandhi was assassinated on this day in 1948 by Nathuram Godse.
His death anniversary is also observed as Martyrs’ Day.
Taking to micro-blogging Twitter, Mr Vijayan said "Today, we pause to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhiji. The day reminds us about the resilience of truth. An empire couldn't confine him, that terrorist Nathuram Godse failed to erase him, lie machines failed to malign him; because Gandhiji stood for truth & truth is ineffaceable."
In a message, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said "Mahatma Gandhi, who preached non- violence all his life succumbed to violence.
Even today Gandhiji's idea of India is being destroyed by the same forces which killed him. Lets all get together to uphold his values and principles."
"Pranamam to Mahatma Gandhi. Let his soul guide India," he added.
