Swallows FC were made to work hard to remain unbeaten as the Soweto outfit came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Just thirty seconds into the match, SuperSport captain and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams had to make a goal stopping save as Kgaogelo Sekgota's strike was set to hit the back of the net.
However, Swallows found themselves chasing the game as United took the lead through a long-range strike by Lucky Mohomi which took a huge deflection off a Dube Birds player.
It was Matsatsansta's 1000 goal in the professional era as they became only the fourth Premiership side behind Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs to do so.
Swallows were on the back foot for much of the first half until captain Lebogang Mokoena received an opportunity on the 33rd minute on the right flank. He found himself in the penalty area surrounded only by one blue shirt but his effort on goal went narrowly wide.
A minute later, Fawaaz Basadien played in Zaphaniah Mbokoma on the edge of the box and the forward pulled the trigger but his low strike was easily dealt with by Williams.
SuperSport did not let up as Swallows upped the ante.
Virgil Vries was made to be at his best to keep Swallows in the encounter and deny Thamsanqa Gabuza from close range before the half-time whistle.
Swallows were nearly undone early in the second half as Luke Fleurs brought down Kagiso Malinga in the penalty area, but the referee was not convinced it was a spot-kick and signalled a corner instead.
Heading into the final fifteen minutes of the game, Joseph Mhlongo came off the bench for Sekgota and four minutes later, the former Black Leopards forward was on the score sheet.
The 30-year-old put the ball into the back of the net from close range following a quickly taken free-kick as Kamohelo Mahlatsi laced in a low cross that caught the SuperSport defence sleeping.
Swallows held their nerve as SuperSport were denied two scoring chances in the final minutes as the away side continued their unbeaten run in the Premiership.
The stalemate sees both Swallows and SuperSport reduce Mamelodi Sundowns’ log lead to just two points as the DStv Premiership title chase gets increasingly intense.
