Haryana Speaker ends membership of Cong MLA Pradeep Chowdhary

Chandigarh, Jan 30 (UNI) Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta on Saturday terminated the membership of Congress legislator Pradeep Chowdhary from Kalka after he was convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment by a lower court of Nalagarh in Himachal Pradesh two days ago.
Announcing this during a press conference here, Mr Gupta also declared the Kalka assembly seat as vacant. He said notification to this effect has been issued with a communication to Election Commission accordingly.
A court of Judicial magistrate, First Class, Nalagarh, on Thursday sentenced Chowdhary and 14 others to three years simple imprisonment and fine of Rs 85,500 each in case of rioting, assault on police to deter public servant from discharging his duty under the prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. A case was registered against them at Barotiwala police station in 2011.
According to the history of the case, one Suchha Singh, a resident of Paploha village near Kalka, had climbed atop an electricity pole at Baddi-Barotiwala chowk in a bid to escape the traffic police which was checking the vehicles there on May 31, 2011. He sustained grievous injuries as he had come in contact with an electricity wire and later succumbed to his injuries at PGI, Chandigarh.
Peeved at this tragic incident, residents from villages surrounding Kalka armed with wooden sticks and rods placed the dead body at Baddi red light chowk. They attacked and pelted the police with stones who were trying to trying to pacify the unruly crowd. The protesters had also blocked the traffic on the highway and set ablaze two government vehicles, including a bus and a pick-up vehicle. The unruly crowd was led by Mahesh Kumar, a resident of Shahpur in Haryana, and Kalka MLA Pradeep Chowdhary was also part of it along with 13 others.

SAD: Centre file criminal cases against officers & goons who attacked farmer camp at Singhu

Addressing a press conference here, party senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia also demanded that since the Delhi Police and goons accompanying them had committed human rights violations, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh should also register appropriate cases against them and take follow up action. He said the SAD would submit a formal complaint in this regard to the Chief Minister.
