MUMBAI: Local trains in the city will be open for the general public from Monday, February 1, but only during non-peak hours. After CM Uddhav Thackeray on Friday asked both Central and Western Railway to operate suburban local trains for all with a few restrictions, the order issued by chief secretary Sanjay Kumar said the general public can take locals in three time slots: from the first service till 7 am, from 12 noon to 4 pm and from 9 pm till the last train.
Essential services staff and those from specified categories can take the trains any time of the day. Women were earlier allowed during non-peak hours.

The state also relaxed norms for shops and restaurants, allowing shops to stay open till 11 pm and restaurants to operate till 1 am. But the 30% staff limit for establishments will continue to be in force.
