CHENNAI:
Tamil Nadu chief minister
Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday said the state government had vaccinated 88,467 people against
Covid-19 thus far. The government has made arrangements to vaccinate 20% of the population -- 1.60 crore people -- this year.
During a video conference with district collectors, the chief minister said the government had spent Rs 7,605 crore towards Covid-19 management thus far. The efforts of the state had brought the transmission under control to a large extent, he added. A few districts reported nil cases.
“In the containment zones, distribution of kabasura kudineer (herbal concoction), spraying of disinfectants twice a day and sanitation are continuously done. The government is maintaining vigil to prevent the spread further. Samples are being collected using vehicles. On intimation of cases, the district authorities visit the area and do the sample tests and take those with symptoms to hospitals,” the CM said.
The state government had conducted 7.05 lakh fever camps, in which 3.68 crore people took part and 13.57 lakh people were diagnosed with fever. Those with symptoms were treated. RT-PCR tests conducted for 1.58 crore people.
Palaniswami said the state was equipped with 1.38 lakh beds in Covid hospitals and centres. “About 15,000 health service providers have been recruited. Life-saving medicines have been procured and adequately stocked in the district hospitals. Because of the precautionary measures, the people received treatment without any hassles,” he said. At least 782 Amma clinics out of 2,000 announced by the government opened thus far.
The district administration and the health department were directed to maintain vigil and remove stagnant waters to prevent the dengue cases. “A situation would arise where it would not be possible to identify whether the fever was dengue, the mosquito-borne disease or due to coronavirus,” the CM said.
The district administration and education department should take precautionary measures and create awareness to prevent the virus transmission. The collectors could continue the weekly grievance redressal meeting following the standard operating procedures.
Palaniswami also took pride in stating that his government attracted investments worth Rs 61,500 crore to set up 74 new industries due to the effective handling of industries sector even during the pandemic. He said 90% trade and 100% agriculture activities resumed in the state thanks to the corrective measures taken by the government.
