Brazil sees mobile and broadband subscriber growth in December

The Brazilian mobile telephony market continued the positive trend in December, with the number of users increasing to 234.1 million from 232.1 million the previous month, Anatel reported. That's equal to a 97.2 percent penetration rate. Postpaid accounted for 50.8 percent of the total, and prepaid stood at 49.2 percent, while 4G accounted for 74.2 percent of lines and 3G for 14.2 percent. Vivo maintained the lead with a 33.6 percent share of mobile lines, ahead of Claro (25.7%), TIM Brasil (22.0%), Oi (15.7%), Nextel (1.3%), Algar Telecom (1.1%) and others (0.7%).
