Farm laws: Govt destroying livelihood of farmers, says Rahul Gandhi

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday hit out at the Centre over farmers' protest saying the only solution to the ongoing problem is repealing new farm laws and putting them in waste paper basket.
Addressing a press conference, Gandhi said the government is destroying the livelihood of farmers through the new agri laws and warned that if not resolved, the agitation will spread to other parts of the country.
"Government must talk to farmers and arrive at a solution. The only solution is to repeal laws and put them in a wastebasket. Instead of talking to farmers and resolving the issue, government is threatening them, discrediting them," Rahul asserted.
"Government must not think farmers will go home. My concern is that the agitation will spread. But, we don't need that, we need a solution," he added.
Asked about the violence that took place during farmers' tractor parade on , he said, "Who allowed the farmers to enter the Red Fort; is it not the home ministry's job to stop them from doing so."
Thousands of farmers, mostly from Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, have been protesting at several border points into Delhi since November-end, demanding repeal of the three laws and a legal guarantee to the minimum support system for their crops.
