Gujarat: Major fire breaks out at textile mill in Surat's Varachha

The exact reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.
SURAT: A major fire broke out in the textile dyeing and printing mill situated at Bhawani circle on Varachha’s Ashwani Kumar road on Friday.
The fire and emergency department of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) said that the fire was reported in the Labdhi textile mills located at Bhawani Circle at Ashwani Kumar Road on Friday afternoon. The exact reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Fire officials said that huge quantity of grey fabric was stored in the textile mill for the processing of the fabrics. The fire broke out in the processing and finishing section of the mill.
Sources said that along with the highly inflammable polyester material, there were hazardous chemical drums inside the mill. The chemical drums burst due to the major fire.
Meanwhile, the Torrent Power has shut the electricity lines in the AK Road area due to the major fire.
All senior officers of the SMC including the deputy commissioner, NV Upadhyay, Chief Fire Officer (CFO), Basant Pareek etc. rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
About 10 fire tenders including foam extinguishers were rushed to the spot to take the fire under control. Till writing of this report, the fire fighters are struggling to douse the major fire.
Sources said that the major fire led to the think black smoke due to carbon dioxide emission. The fire officials are yet to enter the premises to check for any casualties.
There was commotion among the residents in the entire area following the major fire.
