ULCCS activities are a model for the government itself, said Health and Social Justice Minister K. K. Shailaja. She stated that the government would encourage such models to be replicated elsewhere also.

The Uralungal Labour Contract Society is implementing the UL Care ‘Madithatt’ telemedicine project in Vadakara to provide online treatment facilities for the elderly by highly skilled doctors in various specialties. The Minister was inaugurating the ‘Madithatt’ Telemedicine Project.

“The government is implementing a scheme similar to ‘Madithatt’. But it is not in a standard that can compete with it. It will be raised to that level in the future. Projects similar to that implemented by ULCCS should be started in different parts of the state. Panchayats should study this and implement the project on this model. Donations from the financially able and the CSR fund of the companies, MP and MLA Funds should also be mobilized and the implementation should be given to those who will execute it properly.”, the Minister added.

“The government will start a palliative care grid covering palliative care institutions across the state. ‘Madithatt’ and the ULCCS will play an important role in this. A complete palliative care action plan would be formulated and implemented in the state before the elections. The action plan is based on the palliative care policy announced by the government.”, concluded the Minister.

UL Care ‘Madithatt’ is a comprehensive geriatric care center operating under the UL Foundation, the social welfare arm of the Uralungal Labor Contract Society. The telemedicine project is being implemented here considering that hospitals are not safe for the elderly in the Covid 19 pandemic times. The Society officials said that the project will continue even after the pandemic is over.

The project will currently provide services of specialists in the fields of General Medicine, Cardiology, Oncology, Endocrinology, Urology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Dermatology, Vascular Surgery, Diabetology, Gynecology, Andrology, Hepatology, Pediatrics and Geriatric Psychiatry.

‘Madithatt’ which has a lab with five staff, a Neethi Medical Store, and the services of doctors and nurses, have set up state-of-the-art facilities to tackle the health problems and test results of inpatient inmates to specialist doctors and for patients to communicate directly with doctors.

The inaugural function was presided over by C.K. Nanu MLA. Vadakara Block Panchayat President K.P. Girija launched the ‘Madithatt’ website and Onchiyam Panchayat President P. Sreejith launched the mobile app. Dr: M. K. Jayaraj explained about the project. C.K. Nanu felicitated the Minister. Chairman of the Society Ramesan Paleri presented the Society’s token of respect to the Minister.

District panchayat member N.M. Vimala, Block Panchayat member Shashikala Dineshan, Ward member Bindu Vallil, ULCCS Chairman Ramesan Paleri, Kerala Atmavidyasangham General Secretary P.V. Kumaran Master and Karakkad Atmavidyasangham President Mohanan Paleri gave felicitations. TP Bineesh, U. Ranjith, V. P. Raghavan, Sreedharan Madappally, Jauhar Vellikulangara, Ramachandran Koyloth, Babu Parambath, Adv. Baiju Raghavan, M.P. Devadasan were present on the occasion.
