KOLKATA: The Covid
vaccination drive in
New Town is scheduled to start off from 9am on Thursday, when healthcare workers enlisted by NKDA will be inoculated. A target of 200 recipients a day has been fixed.
NKDA officials said a two-storey building set up by Hidco in Action Area II, which had been used as a
safe house for
Covid patients so far, would now be utilized as the
vaccination centre. The decision to transform it was taken as only a few people had been availing of the
isolation facility. “The facility will now be used as a Covid vaccination centre. Our doctors have taken training in vaccination, which will start from Thursday,” said Hidco and NKDA chairman Debashis Sen. The authorities are procuring a cold freezer where the vaccines will be stored.

Our Covid fight has to keep up with the situation on the ground. The focus is now on vaccination; so the health infrastructure that we already have must now be used for this purpose. The move is timely and should be emulated wherever necessary.
The New Town Forum and News (NTFN), a local NGO, has also started preparing a list of people above 50 years who will be interested in taking the vaccine at a later stages. “We have started listing senior citizens in New Town that will be sent to NKDA. We will also conduct a campaign on the safety of the vaccines,” said NTFN chairperson Samaresh Das.
