Lucknow: Man held for hacking girls’ social accounts, blackmail

LUCKNOW: Girls beware! Do not click on any link sent by an unknown user claiming it contains your objectionable photos. A youth, Vinit Mishra, 26, was arrested by cyber crime team on Tuesday for blackmailing girls by accessing their photos, videos and chats from their social accounts and using them to blackmail them.
The accused, a Class VIII dropout, said he learnt the blackmailing trick from a YouTube video.
Lucknow Police also issued an alert asking users not to click any unknown link sent on messenger, twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram and not to share their email id and password.
“Vinit hacked accounts and accessed photos, mobile chats of about 400 girls and sent them threats to upload their phone contents if not paid money,” said ACP, cyber cell, Vivek Ranjan Rai.
He was arrested after a girl complained that an unidentified girl was demanding money on Facebook by threatening to post her photos.
He sent an internet link to girls on their social media accounts with the message that it contains their objectionable photos.
The victims who clicked the link were prompted to type their e mail id and password, which he used to scoop out their photos, videos and chats by downloading them, and then threatened them to post the stuff it if they did not pay money. Police seized his laptop and sent it to Forensic Science Lab.
