Farmers’ protest LIVE Updates
The police are scanning multiple videos and CCTV footage to identify farmers involved in the central Delhi violence, where thousands of protesters clashed with cops who, severely outnumbered, resorted to teargas shelling and lathi charge.
Anarchy prevailed at ITO in the heart of the national capital after protesting farmers vandalised a DTC bus and hurled stones at police personnel. Another group stormed the Red Fort and a protester was seen hoisting the Nishan Sahib, a religious flag of the Sikh community, inside the monument. However, police personnel succeeded in stopping them from entering Lutyens’ Delhi.
The development came after groups of farmers broke police barricades at Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur border points and forced their way into Delhi -- much before the time they were granted permission by Delhi Police for their Republic Day tractor rally.
On Wednesday, security was beefed up in several parts of the city, with paramilitary forces stationed in several places like Red Fort, central Delhi and the three farm protest sites.
