Covid-19 active cases fall further in Puducherry

PUDUCHERRY: An 87-year-old man with coronary heart disease died of Covid-19, taking the death toll to 646 in the Union territory of Puducherry.
The territory reported 24 fresh Covid-19 cases even as 36 patients recovered bringing down the total number of active cases to 282 on Wednesday. Puducherry headquarters has the maximum active cases with 154 followed by Mahe (99), Karaikal (25) and Yanam (4).
Puducherry headquarters also has the maximum fatalities with 528 followed by Karaikal (64), Yanam (45) and Mahe (9). The fatality rate of the infection stood at 1.7%.
The territory has so far reported 38,934 cases of which 38,006 patients recovered registering a recovery rate of 97.6%. Healthcare authorities have sent 5.65 lakh swab samples of which 5.22 lakh samples returned negative. The positivity rate of the samples (1,979) tested on Wednesday stood at 1.2%.
