Two security guards were injured and their firearms taken in an attempted courier robbery in Boksburg on Wednesday morning.
The guards were escorting a DSW courier van, transporting cellphones, among other things, on North Rand and Rondebult Road when occupants of a white BMW started shooting at them.
"The males were armed with high calibre rifles and the vehicle had no registration numbers. The courier vehicle managed to speed off to a safer destination.
"The security guards were shot at until the vehicle came to a halt. The suspects disarmed the guards of their company 9mm firearms and fled the scene," said SAPS spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo.
Another security van tried to give chase, but to no avail.
Masondo said police were investigating a case of attempted murder and robbery with a firearm.
