GURUGRAM: After two days of seeing fewer recipients at the Covid-19 vaccination booths, the city reported an 80% turnout on Monday, the seventh day of the drive. While the set target was 6,250, a total of 5,002 health workers received jabs. The city has now vaccinated 19,485 healthcare workers, or 52%, of its total target of 37,480.

The number of session sites also went up to 101. While Covishield was given to 4,806 recipients at 98 sites, Covaxin was administered to 196 others at the remaining three sites. No adverse event was reported.
“We covered all major hospitals of the city, which is why the turnout was better. The health department also raised awareness and I personally went to motivate healthcare workers to get vaccinated. We also increased the number of session sites at big hospitals to cover maximum healthcare workers,” said Gurugram chief medical officer Virender Yadav.
Health officials attributed Sunday’s comparatively low figures – the turnout was 55% -- to the fact that only private facilities conducted the drive. “The state government had communicated to us that the vaccination drive will be held in all districts on Monday and everyone should try to ensure maximum coverage. So, we set up 101 session sites, the highest in Gurugram so far, and conveyed to our healthcare workers that they should get vaccinated,” said Dr MP Singh, district immunisation officer.
While the city had recorded a turnout of 101% on January 16, the first day of vaccination, the numbers declined to 60% on Day 2. They again went up, to 80%, on Day 3 and further rose to 91% on Day 4. The weekend saw low turnouts as only 58% and 55% turned up for inoculation.
Meanwhile, Haryana on Monday vaccinated 33,215 recipients against the set target of 30,000 recipients, thus achieving nearly a 111% turnout. The highest number of recipients was in Faridabad, where 4,404 health workers turned up for vaccination out of the total target of 4,500. So far, the state has vaccinated 1,05,401 healthcare workers, or 55%, out of its total target of 1.9 lakh.
