Fran Ruchalski/The EnterpriseThe Nederland Heritage Festival announced Monday that it would not go forward with the annual carnival and vendor fair.
A statement released by the organization says, “In light of the current public health crisis and taking into consideration the safety of our community, we have made the difficult decision to not host the annual Nederland Heritage Festival during Spring Break.”
Events that will continue with “proper safety protocols” are the pageant, golf tournament and fun run.
The festival became a point of contention last year when organizers continued to operate despite the spread of COVID-19. Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick issued an emergency order banning the gathering of events with 200 or more people, but it did not apply to incorporated cities.
The ban did, however, stop the YMBL South Texas State Fair from going forward later that month.
