United Airlines is tantalizing travelers with a one-day fare sale offering one-way fares for as low as $29 or 3,000 Mileage Plus Awards miles.
This news comes as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues to urge all Americans to avoid any travel that's not considered essential, though some tickets can be purchased in spring when people may be vaccinated.
United has never offered flights for as low as 3,000 miles. "The previous historic low was 5,000 miles," United said in a statement.
The low fares are available for travel on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
In the Bay Area, United flies in and out of San Francisco and you'll find the best deals on short-haul flights from SFO to destinations such as Redding, Santa Barbara, San Diego, Reno and Redmond, Wash.
Longer-distance, one-way fares, such as SFO to Seattle and SFO to Salt Lake City, cost as little as $79 or 6,000 miles.
Cross-country trips such as San Francisco to Philadelphia or Tampa start at $129 or 8,500 miles.
As always, there's some fine print. Tickets must be purchased at least 14 days prior to departure, but no later than January 26, 2021, according to United. Round-trip purchase is not required. Travel may not begin until February 9, 2021, and must be completed by May 26, 2021. With award fares, you will need to pay some taxes and fees starting at $6.50.
