GURUGRAM: Five days after three masked men stole a Swift Dzire at gunpoint from a driver on Gurugram-Faridabad road, police arrested them from Mathura on Monday.
The accused had stolen the car to use it for kidnapping a Noida-based property dealer for ransom.
According to police, Sahdev Singh — the prime accused— was working with a property dealer in Noida. Sahdev planned to kidnap the property dealer for ransom to repay his debt. To execute his plan, he roped in his friends Dhirender and Dipesh — both from UP.
The accused were arrested from Mathura in UP on Monday by the crime unit of Shikanderpur.
“They needed a vehicle to kidnap the property dealer. So they decided to snatch a car. They chose to steal a car from Gurugram,” said ACP (crime) Preet Pal Sangwan adding that they were planning to use the stolen car to kidnap the property dealer during his Gurugram visit and take him to UP via Palwal. But they were arrested before they could kidnap the property dealer. To execute their plan they had purchased a country-made pistol for Rs 30,000 from Kanpur. They had used the gun for snatching the car. Dhirender has a previous crime record and multiple cases are registered against him in Indore and UP.
On January 21, Mubarak Khan was returning to Faridabad from Manesar after completing a work assigned by his employer. He stopped his car near Ghata mod to use the washroom around 4pm . “I was going towards my car, when three masked men overpowered me and one of them snatched the car keys. Two of the accused dragged me on to the rear seat while a third person took control of the wheel. I cried for help but they kept thrashing me. One of them pulled out a gun and put on my head threatening me to keep quiet,” said Khan, adding that the accused took the vehicle towards Ullawas. After a few kilometres they threw away Khan at an isolated stretch and fled with the vehicle.
Next day on Khan’s complaint, a case was registered at DLF-1 police station in Gurugram. “Many vehicles snatched and stolen from Gurugram are used by criminals for committing another crime,” said ACP.
