When Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation in May last year, he had talked about Kutch’s remarkable resurrection after the 2001 killer earthquake. While announcing a $20 trillion stimulus package to help Covidbattered economy, Modi had said that just like Kutch transformed after the catastrophe, India too will seize the opportunity for the adversity and chart the path towards Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Twenty years after the devastating quake, Kutch has risen from the rubble to script an unprecedented development success. The arid district today boasts of nearly Rs 1.5 lakh crore investment with companies across the sectors flocking here after five-year tax holiday and setting up units that created lakhs of direct and indirect jobs.
Industry captains are optimistic that the post-quake economic rehabilitation model will help tide over the adverse effect of the pandemic on the industry.
