MEERUT: An instructor at a police academy in UP’s Moradabad was on Monday booked for extortion and abetment to suicide, days after a woman sub-inspector — who was about to get married — hanged herself in Bulandshahr, reports Piyush Rai. The case was filed on a complaint filed by her brother, who alleged she was being raped and blackmailed by the instructor for months.
‘Accused was not booked for rape as he was in relationship’
Police didn’t book the accused for rape, saying he and the SI were “in a relationship”. Santosh Kumar, Bulandshahr’s SSP, said, “The woman SI was about to get married. And the accused instructor did not approve of it. He was blackmailing her into calling off the wedding. She was under constant stress, which forced her to take the extreme step (on January 1).”
“They were in a relationship for the last seven years. The analysis of call detail records (CDR) shows that they were talking at least 25 times daily. The claims of the brother are a matter of the investigation,” SSP added. But the brother alleged that she was raped, and was being blackmailed for the last several months.
“My sister had told me that he (the instructor) invited her for tea and laced it with sedatives. He made a physical relationship with my sister and made a video of it. The instructor used that video to blackmail her. He was physically and mentally harassing her,” an excerpt in the complaint read. A 2015 batch officer and a resident of Shamli district, the sub inspector was posted at Anoopshahr Kotwali in Bulandshahar. She hanged herself on January 1.
