Priyanka Chopra Jonas says 'facing racist bullying' while studying in an American high school 'affected her adversely'

In a country like India where it's too common for cosmetic companies to rely on convincing people about a particular whitening product to boom their sales, now Bollywood actors are refraining from promoting such products. Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who recently spoke about the hostility she experienced after endorsing skin-whitening creams in India, also opened up about facing racist bullying when she attended an American high school, which ultimately shook up her confidence. Stating that the children who targeted her did not even understand why they were doing so, Priyanka said, 'In high school, I feel like the kids who were after me didn’t even understand why. I think it’s that they decided that they were more powerful than someone else—me—and when you pick on someone, it’s because you’re insecure. Bullying happens to kids and adults. It happens with positions of power, and we’ve all seen that abuse in multiple ways.' While saying that she was shaken up by it back then, Priyanka added, 'It affected me adversely. It affected my confidence; it affected who I wanted to be. I felt exposed, when your skin is raw.' Well, PeeCee also accepted that she used to promote fairness products but she regrets doing so. Priyanka said that since skin lightening was so normalised, she also did it. Reflecting on the same, she said, 'In fact, doing it is still a check (mark) when you are a female actor, but it’s awful. And it was awful for me, for a little girl who used to put talcum-powder cream on my face because I believed that dark skin was not pretty.' In another interview, the actress had said that she felt bad about promoting such products and that's the reason she backed out from doing the same. She even mentioned that all her cousins were fair while she was dusky. And it was at the age of 13, that she wanted to use fairness creams and wanted her complexion changed. The actress also revealed then that her Punjabi family would call her 'kaali kaali kaali' for fun.
