Orlando Pirates were frustrated as they were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw in their DStv Premiership encounter against TS Galaxy at the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday.

Pirates took the lead through Bongani Sam early on but a goal from Masilake Phohlongo made sure the visitors earned a point.

The Buccaneers made a fast start to the contest and struck first when Sam swept in a low cross from Fortune Makaringe in the 11th minute.

The lead did not last long however as Phohlongo found acres of space in the Pirates box and headed home a fine cross from Luckyboy Mokoena.

Lindokuhle Mbatha showed that Galaxy did not come to Orlando stadium to just sit back and defend as he hit an effort just over the crossbar.

Makaringe should have done better when found himself in space in the box but got his angles wrong and sent a header wide of goal.

Deon Hotto then had a golden opportunity in the second half to give Pirates the lead, but he struck a wayward effort from a Sam cross.

Galaxy were let off the hook late on when a cross-cum shot from the right-side by Hotto clipped the top the woodwork with goalkeeper Marlon Heugh caught off guard.

The Soweto giants kept on probing for the winner as Thembinkosi Lorch and captain Happy Jele had chances, but Galaxy held firm to force the draw.
