In the wake of security, the number of blocks in the border areas of Punjab has also been increased. Pathankot region is considered to be the most sensitive among all districts of Punjab.
About 500 lakh farmers from Punjab have traveled to Delhi with tractors for the tractor parade to be held in Delhi on 26 January in protest against agricultural laws. This has left most of the villages in Punjab empty. On the tractor parade of farmers and on January 26, cross-border intruders are looking to capitalize on this opportunity. The security agencies of the state and the IB have found some important clues of infiltration into Punjab. Earlier attempts were also made by the intruders to take advantage of the peasant movement but were thwarted by the security agencies being on alert mode. Now once again security agencies are getting the information of intrusion.
Security agencies have become extremely vigilant in Punjab's Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, and Fazilka. Also, besides Punjab, the police and security agencies of neighboring states of Haryana and Chandigarh have also become alert. The holidays of officers and employees of the Intelligence Department, including precautionary police personnel in Haryana and Chandigarh, have been canceled.
Pathankot of Punjab is very sensitive
Pathankot district has been declared very sensitive to cross-border infiltration. A special team of Special Operation Group (SOG) has been called here. Besides, 500 additional police personnel have been deployed at sensitive places in the district. According to police officials, the number of blocks in the border areas has also been increased.
Attempt to be infiltrated more than four times in six months
Terrorists have tried more than four times in six months for cross-border infiltration. If we look at the figures of the last few years, 28-30 in 2015, 13-15 in 2016, seven in 2017, 16-18 in 2018, and 3 times in 2019 have been seen, intruders and suspects.
A team of SOG has been called for security. 500 policemen have been deployed separately at sensitive places in the district. The number of blocks in the border areas has been increased. After the tunnel was found in Kathua, a joint anti-tunnel search operation is being carried out by the deadly commandos of BSF and Punjab Police.
