The Centre started the ‘Vande Bharat Mission’ on May 6 to help those stranded overseas due to the novel coronavirus pandemic reach their destinations via international repatriation flights.
According to the Civil Aviation Ministry, 14,882 repatriation flights were operated by the Air India Group under the Vande Bharat Mission till January 23, carrying over 20 lakh passengers. Of these, 7,438 were inbound flights carrying 11.99 lakh passengers and 7,444 were outbound flights with 8.06 lakh fliers.
The mission is currently in Phase 8 which will continue until March 28, 2021.
