LUCKNOW: As many as 117 inmates and three officials of the
Basti district jail have tested positive for coronavirus.
Senior jail officials confirmed to TOI that these persons were found positive during random testing and said that all of them were asymptomatic. A barrack has been turned into an L-1 hospital where a team of doctors are monitoring every patient round-the-clock. There are 1,275 inmates and 50 staff members in Basti jail.
Basti jailor Satish Chandra Tripathi said that preliminary investigation revealed that infection spread from some jail officials who had gone outside the jail.
“All patients have been isolated in separate barracks,” he said. Tripathi added that a team of doctors is monitoring the inmates, while ayurvedic giloy along with food rich in nutrients is being served to them.
“We are also holding yoga sessions for the inmates,” he said.
