Citizens should vote without fear & with complete freedom : Haryana CS

Chandigarh, Jan 25 (UNI) Haryana Chief Secretary Vijai Vardhan has said citizens of the state should exercise their right to vote without fear, difficulty and with complete freedom.
Voters should take a pledge that they will exercise their franchise while rising above caste and religion, the Chief Secretary said while addressing a programme organised on the occasion of 11th State Level National Voters Day here on Monday.
On this occasion, the Chief Secretary administered pledge to the people present at the programme for exercising their franchise. During the programme, Publicity material designed under Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation Programme (SVEEP) was also released.
Mr Vardhan said India's democracy is the best in the world. The biggest feature of the Indian Constitution is that it has given all citizens the right to vote without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion etc. In many countries, women got their right to vote after seeing the strong system of democracy in our country, he said and added that election is the festival of democracy and franchise is a huge responsibility.
He said that in view of the success of the elections conducted through EVM system in India, officers associated with the Election Commission were called by other countries for imparting EVM training to them as well.
Mr Vardhan called upon the newly enrolled young voters that along with getting the right to vote, they have also got a big responsibility towards their country. Therefore they should exercise their right without any discrimination and greed so that the voting process becomes fearless and inclusive.
