Hyderabad: Tribal communities in Kumram Bheem Asifabad kicked off celebrations on Monday after one among them, 63-year-old Ghusadi dance master Kanaka Raju, was declared a Padma Shri winner, that too the only one from Telangana this year.
Kanaka Raju, of Marlavai of Jainoor mandal in KB Asifabad has for long been known as a Ghusadi master among the Adivasis in erstwhile Adilabad district bordering Maharashtra. He has trained several hundreds of Adivasi teenagers and youth in the dance form for over in 40 years now.
It is not the first time that Kanaka Raju is making the tribal communities proud. He has led a Gussadi cultural troupe to Delhi and performed the charming Gussadi dance before the then Prime Minister, the late Indira Gandhi.
