Guv calls for taking resolve to uphold rule of law and Constitutional principles

Kolkata, Jan 25 (UNI) Calling for taking resolve to uphold the rule of law and Constitutional principles, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday vouched for bringing

about all-round development for larger welfare, to rid of all evils and to struggle for justice

and freedom.

In his speech on the eve of Republic Day, Mr Dhankhar said, " My greetings on the

occasion of Republic Day to my fellow brothers and sisters in the State and outside. "

" The year 2021 is very special for us and the Nation. The Central Government has

announced 23 January, the birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, as ‘Parakram

Diwas’. This is a befitting tribute to the legend, " he added.

" We will be having yearlong celebrations to commemorate the the 125th birth anniversary

of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and I am sure all of us will be inspired and motivated by

his thought process, " the Governor stated.

" On this day, let us resolve to uphold rule of law and Constitutional principles, " he said

adding, " Let us all make a pledge to our Motherland to make Bharat Viswaguru and to

bring about all-round development for larger welfare, to rid of all evils, to struggle for justice

and freedom. "

" Brothers and Sisters, the year 2020 was of great challenge all over, because of COVID

pandemic and our State also suffered on account of AMPHAN. "

" I greatly appreciate the efforts made by all of you in taking up this challenge in helping

the needy. "

" The year 2021 will be full of challenges and opportunities, " Mr Dhankhar said and called

upon the people to work so that our State occupies pride of place in our Nation."

" The upcoming Assembly Elections will be a major challenge. In the past, for a variety of

reasons, elections have been marred with violence and malpractices. "

" I solicit your cooperation and all efforts to ensure that this time we have elections free

from violence and any malpractices. "

Without free and fair elections, democracy has no meaning.

" I appeal to our public servants that they must set highest standards in their conduct

and behaviour. "

" They must maintain political neutrality which is a requirement of law. "

" Any deviation by them will not be appreciated. "

" Brothers and sister, our Constitution is a supreme document and all of us have to work

in accordance with it. "

" I appeal to everyone in Government to avoid confrontation and ensure justice is done to

all sections of society by cooperation between the Centre and the State. "

" Our farmers have, unfortunately, been made to suffer on account of their being no

coordination between the State and the Centre and thereby each of the 70 lakh farmers

have so far lost Rs. 14,000."

He appealed to everyone concerned to see that this injustice to farmers is undone at

the earliest.

" Brothers and Sisters, this decade of the century is very critical. Rise of the State of

West Bengal during this decade would mean rise of the North East part of the country

and of the entire country. Let us all resolve to work in that direction. "

" Our State is an epi-centre of culture. It is rich in heritage and it is a guiding force in

several ways to the world at large on account of legends like Rabindranath Tagore,

Ram Mohan Roy, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, S. N. Bose, Jagadish Chandra Bose,

Meghnad Saha, Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, to name only a few, " Mr Dhankhar

stated.
