Depression Hortense: Rainy weather expected to hit Portugal this week

Published on : Monday, January 25, 2021

With the country on lockdown, mainland Portugal can expect rainy weather to continue into this week due to the arrival of Depression Hortense, which will also bring strong gusts and rough seas.

Portugal’s sea and atmosphere institute (IPMA) is predicting rain will fall across the country until at least Monday, continuing late into next week in the centre and north.

Temperatures will remain generally chilly, especially at night, but milder than last week, with maximums ranging between 14ºC and 18ºC in coastal areas such as Lisbon, Porto and Faro and minimums between 8ºC and 12ºC.

Meanwhile, Guarda and Castelo Branco are under ‘red alert’ today due to strong winds while all coastal districts are under ‘yellow alert’ or ‘orange alert’ due to rough seas.
