Nizamabad: Turmeric farmers staged protests and burnt effigies of Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Aravind across the district on Sunday, expressing their ire over his false promise to get Turmeric Board established in the district.
Raising slogans against the local MP, the turmeric farmers at Kammarpally mandal headquarters said Aravind had let them down, and demanded his resignation for his failures.
In Nizamabad city, TRSV activists burnt Aravind’s effigy at NTR circle, stating that he had deceived thousands of turmeric farmers in the district. They demanded that he fulfil his promise and also ensure fair price for turmeric crop.
In Yergatla mandal headquarters, protesting turmeric farmers pointed out that the MP had in the 2019 general elections, gave an assurance in a promissory note that the turmeric board would be established within five days of his election as an MP. He has gone back on his promise, claiming that he never made such an assurance, they said.
Similar protests were held in Navipet, Armoor and other towns and villages.
