SURAT: In an initiative to promote cycling among its employees, diamond export firm Dharmanandan Diamond Pvt Ltd has declared a reward scheme for its employees. Those who cycle to work for two months, January and February, will be rewarded in cash or kind by the company.
According to the company officials, about 100 employees have joined the initiative.
Manish Patel of Dharmanandan Diamonds said, “We have kept the cycling for work scheme for our employees for two months till February-end. It could be extended after seeing the response of the workers. About 100 employees have already joined the initiative while many have purchased new bicycles.”
Patel added, “There are over 1,000 diamond workers in our company. If every one would cycle to work, they will save a huge amount of petrol and reduce noise and air pollution.”
Hitesh Vyas, a diamond worker said, “I live about 10 km away from the factory. Though it is difficult, I made up my mind and started cycling to work. I have to start one hour early to reach the factory on time. But, it is good for health and the environment.”
Another diamond worker, Dhaval Rana said, “I have purchased a new bicycle to join the company’s initiative. I am pedalling about 7 km daily to reach the factory. Even if the scheme is for two months, I have made up my mind to cycle for work for a long time.”
