Moreh, January 23 2021: One person was shot dead and another was injured by some unidentified armed assailants today at Moreh around 12 noon today.

The assailants attacked the persons at a vehicle workshop near Moreh Excise Station.

Meanwhile, the UKLF has claimed responsibility for the killing.

Following the attack, the two persons were rushed to Moreh Hospital and Moreh Primary Health Centre but one person, identified as Thangminlun of Moreh Ward No 9 succumbed on the way to the hospital.

The other injured person was identified as Md Gulbaz, who sustained a bullet shot on his right thigh.

Gulbaz, originally a resident of Kwakta, currently resides at Moreh Ward No 9 and he is an employee of the workshop.

SP of Tengnoupal district police, Th Vikramjit along with other officials rushed to the spot and assessed the situation.

Security measures have also been beefed up to avert any further unwanted incident.

The mortal remains of the deceased is being kept at Moreh PHC.

In the meantime, various Kuki civil society organisations have expressed strong condemnation over the incident and imposed a 24 hours shutdown in Moreh starting from 6 pm today.

The Hill Tribal Council, Moreh; Kuki Women Union and Human Rights, Moreh; Kuki Students Organisation, Moreh Block and Moreh Youth Club, in a joint statement said that it was a barbaric and an inhumane act.

While demanding the perpetrators responsible for the murder to come out with a clarification for their action within 24 hours, the bodies urged not to repeat such crimes in future.

The bodies also called on the State Government to take up befitting action immediately.
