62 women cops for 22 help desks in Mohali

MOHALI: To ensure womenfriendly atmosphere at the district police stations, the Mohali police have appointed a total of 62 women cops for a total of 22 women help desks set up under the ‘Punjab Police Mahila Mittar’ (PPMM) programme after orders from Punjab director general of police (DGP) Dinkar Gupta.
According to the officials, two women cops each have been posted at the women help desks situated at eight Saanjh Kendras and 12 police stations in the district.
“Sub-inspector Sukhdeep Kaur has been appointed as the in charge of the helpdesk for the entire district. The women cell is also a part of this and it comprises a total of 18 women cops,” said an official.
Superintendent of police (headquarter) Akashdeep Singh Aulakh, nodal officer, said, “At each police station or Saanjh Kendra, there are separate desks for PPMM. From minor to major, these women cops will deal with all kinds of complaints. Women, senior citizens and children can now directly go to the women helpdesk.”
