10 beauty and wellness tricks you can learn from Neha Dhupia's Instagram

From Neha Dhupia's playful selfies to her workout photos, here's everything we saved and shared

Neha Dhupia's beauty picks are usually from her mix of staples—nude lipstick, smoky eye and a slick bun are her favourites—but she puts a new spin on them every time. Scroll through our favourite picks from her Instagram to get a sneak-peek of her bold, positive approach.

1. Finding the time to practice self-care can change the tune of your whole day

According to Dhupia, meditating is a great way to stay grounded. “I meditate for 10 minutes in the morning and at night—it really makes a difference,” she shared in an interview. It reduces stress, improves emotional health and enhances self-awareness. “It makes me feel good about my existence and that’s what being beautiful is to me. I know it’s a cliché, but, feeling good about myself works for me and it shows on my face,” she confirmed.

2. Take the time to work out when you can

She might have a busy shooting schedule, but Dhupia always takes the time to exercise when she gets the chance. Even during the lockdown, she took the time to practice yoga and go for a run. Moving can give you a better cardiovascular system, improve your posture and strengthen your muscles. If you're looking for inspiration to get on the mat or lace up your shoes, look to Dhupia's Instagram.

3. A good breakfast is always a must-have

Breakfast replenishes your supply of glucose to boost energy levels and alertness, so picking the right food to start off your day with is important. On Dhupia's plate? “I wake up to warm water with apple cider vinegar and cayenne pepper, which is great for a metabolic boost, followed by a breakfast of eggs and toast or oats in water.”

4. Good skincare is an inside-out game

While skincare products—like mud masks and moisturisers—really help to brighten and hydrate skin, eating the right foods can show up on your face too. “The key to glowing skin, I feel, is to make sure your system is lubricated and hydrated—inside and out,” she confirmed. “All my life, my mother has insisted I have three grams of ghee a day—on rotis or with rice, because it packs in essential fats,” she shared. Another must-have? Beetroot. “It cleanses the system and gives me a natural flush that rivals the best blush in the world.”

5. Taking care of the skin on your body is just as important as your face

You're likely exfoliating, soothing and moisturising your face every day anyway, but are you taking the same care of the rest of your body? Dhupia suggests that you definitely do. “Once a week, I have a neem and milk bath. I steep neem leaves in two buckets of water. I pour one over myself followed by a jug of cold milk, and do a final rinse with the rest of the neem water. It makes my skin glisten,” she confirmed. Neem is able to treat dry skin and wrinkles while stimulating collagen production and reducing scars too. Post-shower, she keeps the moisture all sealed in. “I use cold-pressed, virgin coconut oil as a body lotion. It moisturises and leaves my skin silky and glowing."

6. Hydration is more important than you think

Whether you're drinking water or slathering on moisturiser, keeping your hydration levels up are key. This is particularly important on flights, where dryness can get enough worse. “I hydrate obsessively on flights. On a short four-hour flight, I’ll drink two litres of water and on a long-haul (say, 18-hour) flight, I end up drinking nine litres,” she shared. Also on her list are a face mist to spritz on her face and lip balm.

7. It pays to leave your eyebrows alone

Bold brows can frame your face and accentuate your eyes. But if you used to pluck them in the '90s, you know the struggle of growing them in now. “My mother would always tell me not to get my brows done because once you start threading your brows you have to keep shaping them. But if you let them be, they look natural. I didn’t take her advice and got my brows threaded at 14, and I regret it till date,” she shared. Now, Dhupia often fills her brows in with a pencil and then brushes them up with a gel.

8. Embrace second-day hair

Second-day hair usually has a better hold while allowing natural movement, which is the perfect balance between definition and volume. “I love the texture I get from my second- and third-day hair—messy and a little distressed,” she confirmed. She usually wears her strands in easy waves, or ties it up into a ponytail or a sleek bun.

9. Having a going-out look can help get you out of the door quicker

If you have a go-to makeup look—Dhupia definitely sticks to a formula she knows and loves—knowing the best way to apply and set it is key. “For a more formal or red carpet appearance, I like to wear my hair pulled back with smoky eyes and a nude mouth—it’s my signature look,” she shared.

10. Red lipstick is key

When she's going to an important event, like a film premiere or a party, Dhupia likes to apply a matte red lipstick to tie her look together. Even though nude lipsticks are her first pick, red lipstick takes it up a notch, especially when paired with a tight updo and simple eye makeup.
