Kaizer Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt appears to be ready to keep faith with Daniel Akpeyi as his first-choice goalkeeper despite the availability of Itumeleng Khune.

Khune was for many years Amakhosi's undisputed number one but has seen his first-team involvement drop off sharply in 2021.

Nigerian Akpeyi kept his fifth clean sheet of the Premiership campaign on Saturday in a goalless draw with Stellenbosch FC, but some fans have been left wondering when they will see Khune back between the sticks for Chiefs.

In fact, Khune has not even made the matchday squad for the last six games, prompting a journalist to ask about the veteran's whereabouts.

While Hunt didn't name Khune directly, he made it clear that he was happy with Akpeyi as his first-choice keeper.

"I thought Daniel was excellent today, I thought he was fantastic and he swept well," said Hunt.

"So, there's a lot of competition and people need to work hard to get back in the team."

Khune is not the only gloveman at Naturena vying for a start, however, as the 25-year-old Bruce Bvuma has also featured sparingly.
