NOIDA: Farmers protesting at the Chilla border on Saturday placed barricades and insisted on identity cards of anyone who sought entry to the protest site. The farmers also formed a team of 16 youths tasked with keeping vigil on the movement of any outsider.
The move comes in the aftermath of a youth getting caught at the Singhu border with an alleged intention to foment trouble. On Saturday morning, members of BKU-Bhanu placed wooden logs at the entry points from the Sector 14A and the Shani Mandir side. “Our volunteers are looking for any suspicious element that may cause violence. A team of 16 members has been formed to keep vigil at the entry points,” a protester said.
The farmers have claimed that outsiders are trying to incite violence at protest sites and affect their movement. On Saturday, members of BKU-Bhanu said they would move to Delhi on cattle carts if police stopped their tractors. At least four buffalo carts were brought to Chilla border by farmers on Saturday.
BC Pradhan, a spokesperson for BKU-Bhanu, said while arrangements were being for the tractor rally on January 26, their supporters were being stopped by police at various places. “This is like dictatorship. If police do not allow our tractors to enter Delhi, we will go ahead with buffalo carts,” he added. Bharatiya Kisan Parishad, which is led by Sukhbir Khalifa, who had been at the forefront of farmers’ protest against the Noida Authority, has backed the agitation.
